Basic techniques

You can use our products of the MyDecoWorld range in many different ways and techniques.

untergruende-vorbereiten

Surface preparation

All surfaces that are to be painted should be clean, dust free and greaseless. Remains of glue and stickers should be removed. Glass that is to be designed should be free from rinse agents. Rough wood should be sanded.
For an optimal bond surfaces should be primed with our primer recommendations.

wischen-polieren

Swabbing and Polishing

Inka-Gold is swabbed on absorbing surfaces with a sponge.
Remove some Inka-Gold from the jar with a pallet knife and put it on a plate. Then take up the Inka-Gold with a sponge and swab it on the surface in a circular motion. (1)
Then with an unused side of the sponge, polish in a circular motion till it gleams. (2)

spachteln

Filling

Paints and pastes that have a thicker consistency can be applied very well with a palette knife. The surfaces of creative paints are especially smooth even when applied with a palette knife. Remove some Modeling paste from the jar and distribute it over the surface to be designed. Then smooth the surface evenly with the palette knife.

perlen-erstellen

Pearls from a Pen

Products that we offer in a pen can be set on surfaces as a pearl or a drop. Hold the pen 2-3 mm from the surface and squeeze the pen lightly. When the pearl is large enough, reduce the pressure. Work on a tissue or piece of scrap paper first, to remove air bubbles in the pen.

modellieren

Modeling

Different techniques result in different surface structures with creative paints. If the lines that a brush makes are not wanted, it is possible to dab over the paint lightly to smooth the structure. Dabbing with the flat side of a palette knife makes an uneven surface. Lines and designs in Modeling-Cream are made with modeling brushes with different tips.

aufstreichen

Painting

The most even and nicest paint coatings are achieved in painting surfaces twice.
Apply paint with a flat brush thinly (1). Let paint dry thoroughly.
The second painting (2) can be somewhat thicker, but not so much that it runs.

patinieren

Patination

To patinate edges and to enhance details, most paints can be patinated.

Take up a small amount of paint from the jar with a sponge, dab off extra paint onto a paper towel (1) and swab lightly over the areas that wish to be patinated (2).

schablonieren

Stenciling

Affix the stencil flatly on the surface to be designed. So that the stencil stays in place it can be dabbed on the backside with Magnetic-Glue. Let the glue dry and then set the stencil. With a palette knife coat the free areas of the stencil with the paint. It is best to use paints with a pasty consistency. Remove the stencil while the paint is still wet.

linien-aus-pen

Lines from the Pen

The pens are ideal for designing with lines, writing or contours.

Lines are made by pressing the pen longer and evenly while moving the pen over the design.
Tip: With a drawing pen tip very fine lines can be made.

trocknungszeiten

Time to dry

The drying times vary of the different creative paints and how thick they are carried on. Quick drying paints are dry in about 15 – 30 min., modeling pastes need about 12 hrs. and Crackling-Color needs approximately 48 hrs to be totally dried through. Please do not place objects on a radiator or use a hair dryer to dry the paint.

Basic techniques

To show you the best way of application you can find here the basic techniques with descriptions in written and illustrated form.

papier-reissen

Tearing paper

The paper is torn for decorative angle designs. Grip as closely to the corner as possible when tearing the paper. The resulting irregular corners can be coloured with Paper-Soft-Colour. They appear darker than the surface of the paper. Then roll or bend the paper corners.

flaeche-colorieren

Coloring surfaces

Paper-Soft-Color is swabbed onto the paper with a foam stipler in circular motions and with light pressure. Make a test application on a separate piece of paper.

Beautiful colour gradients appear by using two or more colours that can be worked into each other like clouds.

flaeche-tupfen

Dab area

3D - color stamp or Rusty can be used extensively by the color is repeatedly spotted thin on the paper.

Receive a small quantity paint from a can and dab the foam stippling on a test sheet so that the color distributed in stippling. Then work on the paper.

schablonieren-wischen

Stenciling and smearing

Place stencils onto the paper and completely color the surface over paper and stencil with a foam stipler in circular motions.

Two or more colours may be used.

schablonieren-mpw

Stenciling

The stencil is laid flat over the surface to be designed. The paint is thinly spackled onto the free spaces in the stencil with a modeling trowel.

Pasty materials are most suitable for stenciling.

stempel-einfaerben

Coloring the stamp

The foam stipler is pressed onto the sponge of the Paper-Soft-Color can to take in the color. Then lightly dab the silicon stamp several times.
Upon initial use of Paper-Soft-Color the stipler may be pressed hard onto the sponge several times in order to „pump“ the color into the sponge.

stempeln

Stamping

Pull the silicon stamp from the carrier foil and place it flat-side-down onto an acrylic stamp block. Upon initial use the stamp may stick very tightly to the carrier foil. Color the stamp as described with slight pressure, gently onto the paper surface. This allows for especially precise lacy patterns.

aus-dem-pen

Directly from the pen

Place the color directly onto the paper for drops or half-pearls, with equal pressure on the pen. Lines form when the color - with equal pressure on the pen - is drawn along the surface.
Tip: With a painting tip it is possible to create especially fine lines.

schleifen-mpw

Sanding

On a flat surface paint the dried Relief-Paperpaste with a foam stipler as described. Allow to dry.

Then lightly grind the elevated areas with fine sandpaper. Then the relief appears to have an erratically bright tone.

effekt-spachteln

Spackle effects

To achieve irregular surface effects, pastelike paints may be partially and lightly spackled.
This requires only a little paint, e.g. Rusty or 3D stamp paint, on the trowel before lightly rasping it on the surface painted with Rusty, etc.

Design techniques

Chalky Vintage Look is painted, Modeling Cream is easy to trowel, Inka Gold is wiped onto the surface, and Diamond Tex can be used to stencil fascinating patterns. In the Viva Decor Worlds, we will show you even more techniques to decorate your surfaces with various effects.
